I turned 30 this summer, and decided that it was time to stop carrying around those extra few pounds from the pregnancies and actually not just lose weight, but get healthy. So I joined a doctor-supervised health program at the local pro club. 3 months later, and probably around 70 workouts, I have run two 5k races and am signed up for two more next month, and am debating starting to train for a marathon next year. I no longer wake up on the weekends already tired without any energy to keep up with my kids.
The biggest test will probably be when we go back to visit my family later this year, and we'll have the whole gang including 6 kids all together - will I be the one running and playing with them this time, instead of sitting on the chair smiling serenely? :-)
I have some official before & after pics from the program that I'll post when I get the soft copies, but I ended up needing to take a self-portrait for something else today so decided to dig out a recent 'before' pic too:

Wow, how did you stay motivated? I'm sick of the extra weight too and I have noticed how many moms are overweight...I don't want to be one of them. You did a great job!

Jamie - it was pretty easy to stay motivated because insurance was paying for the program for me because of my high cholesterol. If I didn't show up for my workouts or my dietician appointments, i'd have to pay the full amount for the program out of pocket :-) But it only took about 3-4 weeks of working out 6 days/week for me to start to see the benefits to me and that motivated me to keep going.

You need a remote for your camera so you can keep the flash out of your picture :)

Naw, the flash-ful self-portrait emanates that certain cool, spontaneous photographer vibe.
Oh and KC, you look great! :)

I thought it was the black sleeveless mockneck and oh-so-trendy-and-cool ripped jeans that emmanated that certain cool, spontaneous photographer vibe. If only we could all be like KC. :D
