Soon after my son was born, my mom and dad came out to stay with us and help out. While here, my mom cooked a lot of meals and with every meal she made a salad and made the dressing by hand. At the time, I remember thinking wow, this is good dressing, gotta get the recipe sometime. I was still a wee bit foggy from the "birth" and "not sleeping" and "god damn breastfeeding sucks" thing.
So I eventually asked her for the recipe and, now get out your notecards, here it is:
Mix one part olive oil... with one part vinegar
Ahh yes, that's right, it's oil+vinegar. Not exactly the wow factor of "she made her own salad dressing!" that I thought at the time, no discredit to my mom since it is actually quite tasty. Did I mention the fogginess? I'm pretty sure I did.
To my credit, there was also some 'good salt' in it. (Note: my family uses 'good' to refer to 'the one I need right now' or 'the one we're using right now', in this case it's some kind of fancy salt and pepper mix from Morton's).
And on a brighter note, I'm the number one google hit for 'suburban stripper mom'. Hooray for pagerank.
