Please read this tip of the day:
When giving a customer their change, first place the coins in their hand, then the bills and receipt over them. This way, the coins will not slide off the bills, fall on the floor, annoy the customer, and hold up your line while the customer picks up the coins.
This has been a pet peeve of mine for years. I always feel so small for getting annoyed by this, but I don't understand how I figured this out as a cashier at age 16, and yet lifers who check me out at the grocery store and target still haven't figured this out. AUGH.
I totally agree, and it also annoys me that they "must" have the register tell them how much change to give back and can't do simple math to return my change. For example, the total is $5.15 and I give them a ten and a quarter, and they look at me like I'm an idiot... just type it in and give me my change!

As a former Customer Service Manager for Target and Filene's Basement, I can tell you that cashiers are not being trained in how to handle money anymore. I have been a CSM for over 20 years, and I learned from a very particular store manager. I have attempted to instill his teachings into many people in the store where I have worked, with limited success. Even store management now does not enforce correct money handling. If you want to change this, ask to speak to the store managers when this happens to you. Hope this helps.

maybe it's because you're smart enough to figure this out that you're not a cashier 'lifer'?
sorry, I had to say it.
